Local sources in Panjshir province told IntelMedium that the Taliban have sent additional equipment to a key military unit known as the Dashtak Brigade, stationed in the Dashtak area of Rokha district.
The brigade is commanded by Mawlawi Musafir, a well-known Taliban figure in the province.
According to informed sources, following the bombardment of the Kandahar brigade by Pakistani fighter jets, the Afghan Taliban in Panjshir have transferred and are storing a significant portion of their military equipment—including weapons and logistical assets from various centers—into underground fortifications (locally known as “soof” chambers).
These shelters are largely the same fortifications built during the time of Ahmad Shah Massoud, Afghanistan’s national hero, and due to their mountainous and rocky location, they offer strong resistance against aerial bombardment by Pakistani fighter jets.
One of the Taliban’s security tactics is that from sunset until morning, nearly all members of the group—including Mawlawi Musafir, the brigade commander—sleep inside these underground chambers and caves among large rock formations to reduce the risk of nighttime airstrikes.
Two former security sources told IntelMedium that in recent months, the Taliban have extensively transferred military equipment from northern provinces of Afghanistan into the soof chambers and mountainous areas of Panjshir.
This move by the Afghan Taliban appears to be aimed at better protecting their military assets from Pakistani airstrikes.
The situation reflects growing Taliban concerns over aerial threats—especially following recent reports of explosions and attacks in the Dashtak area—and highlights their efforts to maximize the use of Panjshir’s natural geography as a defensive shield.
