Increase in Suicides Among Teenage Girls Amid Taliban Violence – 17-Year-Old Girl Hangs Herself in Kunduz

Kunduz – Local sources told IntelMedium that a 17-year-old girl ended her life by hanging herself on the evening of Friday, April 4, in the “Do Bolola” area of Police District 2 in the city of Kunduz.

According to the sources, the girl was taken to the Kunduz regional hospital after the incident, but she had already died before arriving at the hospital.

The motive and reason for her suicide remain unclear.

This incident comes after a similar case of suicide by a young woman was previously reported to IntelMedium in Takhar province.

Since the return of the Taliban to power, reports have pointed to a concerning rise in suicide cases among teenage girls in Afghanistan — a phenomenon often linked to forced marriages, domestic violence, and mental pressure in a society where women lack legal and institutional support.

The absence of women’s rights organizations and the severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban have further worsened the situation for girls and women in the country.
