Taliban’s New Oppression in Baghlan: Occupying Homes and Charging Rent
According to local sources, the Taliban in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province, have seized several private homes without the owners’ consent and have demanded that the original homeowners pay rent to live in their own properties.
One local resident told IntelMedium: “The house I built with my own efforts has been given to one of their people, and now they want me to pay rent for living in my own property. This is not only against the law but an insult to humanity.”
Another resident said: “The Taliban have occupied our house, and instead of leaving, they’ve warned us that if we want to stay, we must pay a monthly rent. They don’t have any legal documents. It’s all about force and threats.”
Earlier, local sources in Baghlan reported to IntelMedium that the Taliban have not only seized private homes but have also confiscated several government-owned lands, distributing them among their own people.
Local residents consider this behavior oppressive, contrary to Islamic principles, and a blatant violation of human rights. Despite repeated complaints, the Taliban have yet to respond to these actions.
