Pakistan’s Representative to the UN: Taliban’s Actions Against Women Are Against Islamic Laws and International Commitments

Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated during a UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan that the Taliban’s actions against women and girls are not only incompatible with their international commitments but also against Islamic laws and teachings.

He stressed that the Taliban have not fulfilled their previous commitments and have increased restrictions on women and girls.

Akram further noted that ISIS has become a serious challenge for the Taliban. He also mentioned that Pakistani forces have stopped using weapons left by foreign forces in their operations against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

He urged the Taliban to take responsibility for collecting these weapons from terrorist groups.

Mr. Akram also claimed that Pakistan has evidence that some Taliban officials have not only tolerated border attacks but have also been complicit in them.
